Peer-To-Peer Lenders: Who’s Out And Who’s In?
Today, just a reeeeeaallly quick look at a couple of the changes to 4thWay's complete list of all P2P lending and other online direct lending providers.
Because a few of the changes leaped out at me over the past few weeks:
LandlordInvest is “out”
This one was “out” one year ago, but now it's basically properly out, as the remaining loans outstanding have wound down to just about £1 million still outstanding.
Lenders earned over £2 million interest with just £71,000 in losses, so lenders will be in the plus by the time it's well-and-truly-properly out.
It's a shame, because it just leaves to providers focused on lending against property that is being rented out: Housemartin* (read review) and Proplend* (review).
Madiston LendLoanInvest is definitively out
For lots of years, MadistonLendLoanInvest was seemingly teasing that it was going to re-open or was even sort of operating in a lending platform in the background.
It's now disappeared and an attempt to go to its former website today tried to direct me to a URL with malware on it. That happens when businesses close their websites – the sharks buy the domain names to scam those expecting to visit a legitimate business.
When that happens, most modern web browsers should protect you from harm with ease.
As far as I know, lenders had positive returns overall, but very little money was lent through it.
No-one is really “in”. Not really.
A colleague stumbled across West One recently, but it's just for professional investors.
We like to be inclusive, but that's just a touch too restrictive for us to group it with peer-to-peer lending, which is supposed to be more widely available.
You can see it here though if you like.
